Meredith Summerville brings several types of experience and expertise to the SELF Advisory Board. In the summer of 2017, Meredith earned her Ph.D. in School Psychology from Tulane. At Tulane, she developed expertise in Trauma-Informed School Psychology, conducting assessments and providing clinical services for children exposed to domestic and community violence, as well as natural disasters. She has significant training and experience in conducting developmentally and culturally appropriate assessments and interventions, and served as a school psychologist with the Jefferson Parish Public Schools during the 2016-2017 school year.
Previously, Meredith worked as a teacher and assistant principal in New Orleans, and in education policy for the New York City Department of Education. She earned her Ed.M. in Curriculum and Instruction in 2006.
Meredith is also a parent to two young children; a typically-developing son and a daughter who has cerebral palsy and significant medical needs. Her experiences as a parent have pushed her to rethink and fight against outdated and damaging perceptions of disability, informing a commitment to true inclusivity and a recognition of the basic civil and human rights all our children share.
